How long had it been, since she had planned a journey such as this? Due to the fire, along with her capture, Tamari had missed several of the half-moon meetings for the Shamans and Healers. Really, it had been far too long. The impatience she felt was clear as she danced from one foot to the other, subltly fidgeting in her own gentle way. She wouldn't deny the excitement she felt at seeing the immortal divines again.
Where was he!? It wasn't like they had agreed on a set time to leave, but she had thought it obvious that she planned to leave as early as possible. The trip to the temple was a long one, and they'd need to cross through Mentis to get there, more trouble. Perhaps he was sharing his bed with someone, that would definetely explain his tardiness. Wait. Tardiness!? What was she? Some kind of scolding teacher? Sheesh, even Tamari knew she had to lay off on that. Besides, it was none of business who or what Kako decided to sleep with, ranging from a stuffed toy to some girl playing hooky. Why should she care?
Tired of shuffling her feet, Tamari folded her legs and gracefully sat on theground in a fluid motion. Running her fingers through dark hair, she absent-mindedly plaited it as she waited her leader. The shaman already had travelling herbs packed, though she had no intention of taking them and assumed Kako wouldn't either. He was stubborn that way. Hopefully neither of them would need the plants sustenance.
Flicking the finished plait over her shoulder, Tamari covered her mouth to contain a small yawn. Standing up again, unable to sit still for any longer than she had been able to stand, Tamari ran her fingers up and down the tear in the back of her shirt, which was hopefully not big enough to be noticeable. It wasn't like she wanted to go around, feeling half naked with the cold wind on her back, but the sixteen foot hawk wings fanning out from her shoulder blades weren't exactly easy to contain within a shirt for long. Shaking out the tan and white speckled apendages, she curved them up and brought them around to examine them for any broken feathers. Although they appeared heavy, her wings were thing and light, easily breakable, and the loss of too many feathers in the wrong place would put an end to her flying for quite some time. She was very picky on her wings.
Oh for God's sake. Normally Tamari was patient, but both her desires, mainly the one to speak to the gods, along with perhaps that little part of her that longed to see Kako was making her edgy and nervous. God she was pathetic.

Just fumbling through the grey.. Trying to find a heart that's not walking away... ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫
Kako woke up groggily to someone stepping over top of him. Oh, right, Jen. He slept on the floor of his own den that night because the injured warrior took his bed so early. He followed her out of his cave, which probably didn't look so good. Oops.
Of course, the first person he saw was Tamari. Would she think sexually of the fact that he and Jen emerged from the same den at the same time? Sheepishly, he smiled at her. He looked like hell though, from sleeping on the floor. His hair was a mess, his eyes clearly tired, and his back so freaking sore.
He reached out to embrace Tamari, because it just felt right.
"Goodmorning, Sunshine. Sorry to keep you waiting, were you here long? Rough night, I hate sleeping on the cold hard floor, even in wolf form."
He threw that last part in because he wanted to try and make it so Tamari didn't think he slept with- in more ways than one- the girl that emerged from his den.
"Gods, I wish I was allowed to eat before visiting them. I'm starved."
Kako sighed, and looked over at Tamari. Was that annoyance in her eyes? Excitement that quickly followed? He wanted to hug her again, he wanted to hug her all day. But instead, he stuffed his hands into his pockets quietly and flashed Tamari another apologetic smile. He really was sorry for keeping her waiting.
"I uh, I'm ready to go I suppose."
Then he remembered that he looked like shit. He ran his hand through his usually-perfect hair, it was messy and shaggy, and a little longer than when he had last seen Tamari. He sighed.
There's no saving this hair without bathing. But for that we have no time. I apologize that your traveling partner looks like an entire tribe attacked him in his sleep."
He chuckled a little bit, at his own joke.

~ ! ~ ! ~ So it was the whore then? Charming. Not that she could bring it up with him, or argue against his choices. He was a big boy and she had absolutely no reason to feel jealous. None.
She couldn't stop heat blooming in her cheeks from the hug though, it seemed she was never able to forsee these actions of apparent affection. Tamari still had no clue as to why he did it, whether he was just screwing with her, or whether it could actually mean something. Although, she made a habit not to look too far into it. She had no wish to be another 'bed buddy' of Kako's, since it seemed he had several.
On the other hand, he did seriously look like crap. Normally someone probably wouldn't bring this up to their leader, especially one with a temper like Kako's, but Tamari felt nothing but safe beside him and could easily enough weather his anger. Do you always look this pleasant in the morning, or did you just groom yourself like that especially for me? He said he slept on the floor That was odd. There was a perfectly good bed in his room, why not go there with Jen instead of going at it on the ground?
Then again, as she looked at her leader, Tamari gently bit her lip as she examined him. His eyes shone with a lack of sleep, though that could probably be explained by the fact he had a hoe in his room. His hair, she found pretty cute, since he obviously hadn't bothered to do anything with it. She had to bite back a sigh. Why was he always so confusing? Like a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Eventually, she just gave up. Sleep with her, don't sleep with her. The consequences of his actions didn't matter, unless they affected her.
Stretching up on her toes, she tried her best to give some order to Kako's hair, running her fingers gently through it like a comb to give it some order. Understandably he couldn't have a shower now, but she'd be damned if she was letting him get anywhere near the temple looking like that. Kako's hair was as stubborn as the rest of him, and she overall she couldn't do much about it. Stepping back with a sigh, she examined the finished product. Better, but not as good as usual.
Cracking a small grin, she looked down at her toes and backed away. "You're hair is soft, did you know that? I always thought it would be hard or rough to touch. But....It's not."
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Shaking it off, she turned abrubtly and walked a few steps away, trying to compose what remnants of dignity she had retained. Sighing, she thoughtfully rumaged through the small pouch at her waist, running her fingers over the familiar textures of the herbs. Finally, she rested upon the rose petals, usually she didn't carry them, today it seemed lucky she had.
Rolling her eyes ever so slightly, she turned back to her leader and motioned for him to sit down. "If you did sleep on the ground as you claim, then you'll undoubtably be sore. I'm not going to be walking all the way to the temple with someone who walks like a crippled old man. I'm going to brew a tea with rose petal leaves and you'll drink it. Understand? They're herbs, so it won't count as food."
Her brisk words left no room for argument as always, and she was already on the ground getting things set up before she was finished talking.

Underneath this fragile frame, there’s a battle between pride and shame But I’ve lost that sense of pride... ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫
Kako sighed and shrugged. If Tamari wanted to fill him up with her healer tea, she could gladly do so. Besides, he did complain about starving, hopefully this would help. Perhaps it would rid of the drowsiness, as well. As excited as he was, he slept like shit because of his placement on the floor. As long as the soreness went away, he'd be content.
He sat as instructed and watched Tamari, mixing her herbs together for him. His eyes wandered from her hands and herbs back up to her beautiful face. His gaze unwavering, heart beating quickly. It was true, in fact, that Kako was not often one to fall in love, he didn't really believe in love... not the way his sister did. But if there was ever a moment that he knew he had felt love it was this one.
Tamari fascinated him with everything she did, uncontiously or not she was his absolute perfection. He only wished that she felt the same towards him. They called it Skinny Love, but he had no idea of this.
Her expressions changed while she worked, she was focused and always determined, her eyes not even looking at him, which was disappointing, only her herbs. Kako was beaming at her, his smile stretching from ear to ear. His eyes soft, watching her face change as she worked. He had never met someone so intriguing in his entire life.
"I, uhh, can't wait to spend more time with you."
He cleared his throat, still looking directly at her.
"I really missed you, Tamari."

~ ! ~ ! ~ Tamari kept her amber eyes trained on the boiling herbs, only because she knew that turning he head to look at Kako would result in her smiling uncontrollably. That was a level of embarressment she could not handle.
What in the hell had he meant by that anyway? I can't wait to spend more time wih you??!! How was she supposed to respond to that? More importantly, why did she suddenly feel like she was burning up?
Risking a quick glance over at him, she couldn't help but let out a small, breathy laugh. He was grinning like a fool, with an expression she had never seen on the usually calm, poker-faced leader. "If you leave you mouth like that, bugs will start flying in, Kako." She warned gently, suppressing another laugh.
Picking up the rose mixture, she blew on it gently for a moment. Dealing with normal Kako was dangerous enough on a good day, dealing with a Kako with a burnt tongue sounded deadly. Passing the cup to him, she quickly looked away and busied herself with packing the herbs away. If he continued smiling like that, pretty soon she'd start as well, she was sure. What on earth had coaxed out that expression in him anyway?
"Drink it before it gets cold." She murmured, looking the other way.

Kako took the cup into his hands gently. But when Tamari's hand brushed his as she passed the tea, he legitmately had to l ook away to keep himself from blushing. The power she had over him... it was almost too much sometimes.
He sipped gently, it was perfect temperature. Within a few minutes, the tea was gone and Kako was fit enough to travel. He sighed, looking like hell in front of the women that he loved was seriously not the smartest idea.
"I should've kicked Jen out of my bed last night, claimed it back as my own. Sleeping on the floor was awful."
He hinted, again, that he had not spent the night close to Jen. Or, anywhere near her really. Though Kako would usually find the jealousy intriguing between two women, it wasn't like that with Tamari. Instead of wanting her jealous, he wanted her to know that she was the only one he wanted. Ever. He didn't want from her what he wanted from the others before her.
Instead of wanting her to love him, to beg for him, to want him, he wanted to make sure that she knew that he wanted her, he would beg for her, and he loved her, and only her. He'd never ever felt like this before. But Tamari, to him, was so much more. She was so special and dear to him. She wasn't just a girl anymore, she was the girl.
"I'm ready when you are, Mari."
He used the nickname with a grin, remembering that he was the only one that had ever called her that. He loved the nickname that they shared. It, somehow, reminded him of their closeness.
"Tell me of you, on the way. Tell me of your travels. I want to know everything that you have to share. We have so much to catch up on."
Kako could listen to Tamari talk to him for days. Listen for hours. Just the sound of her voice and the sight of her beauty, he could easily get lost in it all.
"Tell me everything, go on for hours. I won't mind."

~ ! ~ ! ~ Mari How long had it been since she'd heard that name? The familiarity of it made her feel safe, and so much more comfortable around Kako, knowing that her name to him, at least hadn't changed.
Standing up, she brushed dust off her pants casually. She unfortunately couldn't mask her surprise, and sadly her pleasure as Kako determined that he had not, in fact slept with Jen in that matter. Turning to him wth a shy smile, she asked cautiously, "so you really didn't sleep with her?" Why was she worried about something like that anyway? Quickly stammering over an apology, she held her hands up to show she was sorry. "I...I'm sorry. I mean...It's none of my business who you.....well....You know. Decide to sleep with. I'm sorry for asking."
He wanted to know what she had been doing? Eeesh. Grateful for the change in subject and trying to simply avoid and forget everything she had just said, Tamari absent-mindedly reached up to run her finger over the two paralel scars down her right eye. Her mouth twisted into a small frown, then she laughed slightly. "Surprisingly, I haven't done much. How about you?" She wan't lying, she hadn't done much, it was just a matter of what she had done that was in question.
Expertly dodging the subject, she turned and began walking, knwing without looking that Kako would follow.

Kako grinned, but before he could do anything or respond to the comment about sleeping with Jen, Tamari was already going on about her travels, which weren't very exciting. But when she reached up and traced her eye with her finger tips, Kako grew concerned.
Again, though, before he could speak she had turned around and started walking. Kako lurched after her, not blaming her for being in a hurry, but this seemed more like she was avoiding something. Instead of asking, though, he caught up to her and wrapped his arms around her from behind. Stopping them both in their tracks.
He sighed, and held her for a minute before speaking.
"No, Mari I didn't sleep with Jen. She likes girls first of all, and I only like one girl. But never mind that, what's with your eye? Who do I need to beat up?"
Kako craned his neck and smiled at her over her shoulder. His smile was gentle, but his eyes held great concern for he knew something was not all too right. He let go, and turned to face her, allowing them to both walk again.

"Beat up?" Tamari laughed, yes that was definetely the Kako she knew. She let out a short gasp at the feeling of his arms snaking around her, but quickly covered it. In all honesty, she felt like she was melting into his chest like this, with him holding her. Why was he so warm?
She almost breathed a sigh of relief when he released her, but immediately felt the cold after the warmth of his body. Reaching back nervously, she threaded her fingers through his and took his hand gently, waiting to see if it would spark a negative reaction from the unpredictable man.
"You don't need to beat anyone up, Kako, seriously. While I was on my own, I was attacked by a snow leopard, it was kinda my fault anyway. I was in my hawk form, resting in a tree, it was just hunting. Cats eat birds, remember?"
Casting her memory back, she pursed her lips as she went over the scene. Although she had no need to describe it to him, and really no reason, she wanted to be sure to tell it accurately. "I believe it was trying to take my head off, but I shifted back into my human form and dropped down out of the tree, so it only grazed my eye. I think that was about a month after the fire. I was pretty lucky not to lose my sight, but I took care of it on my own."
Shrugging slighly, she tilted her head to look up at him as they walked. " After that, I didn't do all that much. I flitted here and there, keeping mainly to the loner's territory, as I figured that'd be where most of our tribemates would go. I popped into Mentis and Secretum once or twice to see if I could run into a patrol and discover anything, what they knew about us and all that. They all think we're pretty weak right now. I wanted to hurry and get to the temple, so we could hurry and get back to keep the tribe safe."
She still didn't know what Kako had been doing, though she guessed he hadn't left Crudelis territory. Did that mean he had stuck through the fire? He was surpisingly unscathed if that were true. She had only seen the small wound on his hand that Aly had taken care of. She knew he was stubborn enough to try and hide wounds, but surely she would have noticed them by now. Right? He didn't seem ailed, at all really. Damn Blockhead, now she was doubting herself.

Kako's heart raced when Tamari grabbed his hand, he had to look away because his expression clearly gave away his excitement. True, Kako was always unpredictable and he loved holding Tamari close, but when Tamari was the one being unpredictable it made things 100 times more exciting. Yes, even something as simple as hand holding.
He was crazy about this girl, and he just couldn't help himself. He listened to her closely, her story interesting as well as terrifying. He didn't like the thought of her getting mangled like that, but at least it was only a minor problem. Luckily Tamari could heal herself, which only caused Kako worry for those of his warriors who couldn't.
"I'm really, really glad you're safe, my love." He whispered quietly, looking at her with such honesty and compassion that nobody would underestimate his feelings for her.
"Your story though, it reminds me of the others. I am afraid we may have lost many to the cycle of nature. I guess that's what we're gonna find out, huh?"
Sadly, he looked down and kept walking, still laced into Tamari. Kako may lead the cruelest tribe in the entire land, but he cared for them so much, it broke his heart to think that he had lost anyone to the stupid fire, or worse.
He glanced at Tamari's eye and thought again about how lucky she was. Though she would be just a beautiful sightless, it was almost hard to imagine his healer, and his best friend, with a sight impediment. Sighing, he squeezed her hand gently, and smiled down at her with a calm expression.
"You better be more careful. Or we will be retiring you to the elders' den much sooner than anticipated."
He stuck his tongue out at her, making sure she knew he was only joking.

My love? She murmured softly, in a slightly awed voice. Where had that come from? He had never said something like that before, it had taken her by surprise but she tried to hide it.
Sensing his upset demeanor, she tugged his hand gently and smiled up reasuringly. "Don't worry, they're strong like you. Don't give up on them just yet, I'm sure they're just fine." She put all her heart into wishing and hoping that the words were true, but she had no gaurantee. But this was the Crudelis tribe, after all, they could weather anything.
Laughing at his joke, she shook her hair back over her shoulder, not wanting to remove her hand from Kako's. Only after you, my leader. You can bet I wont go without a fight! I'm not ready to put up with old windbags just yet."
Giggling slightly, she turned as he stuck his tongue out at her. Grabbing it between two fingers gently, she tugged his tongue gently with a small smile. Careful, you don't want to losr this, right? You should be careful where you're poking it, boy."
Shifting her head, she looked over her shoulder. The temple was only just in view now, its golden spires shining in the bright sunlight. It wouldn't be long till they were there, and the thought made her a little sad. Reaching the temple meant they'd need to settle back into their ranks for the tribe, and their easy companionship would have to end while they faced their responsibilities for their clan.
